There’s a certain kind of tired that sleep doesn’t fix.
It comes from being the person who keeps going because there really isn’t another option.
The person who figures it out.
The person who makes the appointments, pays the bills, handles the problems, takes care of everyone else, answers the phone, shows up, and somehow keeps life moving even when everything inside of her wants to stop for a minute.
People call you strong.
And I know they mean it as a compliment.
But sometimes I don’t want to be strong.
Sometimes I want someone else to say, “I’ve got this. You don’t have to figure it out today.”
I’ve spent a lot of my life surviving things I never thought I would have to survive. Loss. Motherhood. Relationships. Starting over. Building things and watching them fall apart. Picking myself back up when I wasn’t even sure where to begin.
And somewhere along the way, being “strong” became part of who I was.
But strength doesn’t always look like having everything together.
Sometimes strength is crying in the bathroom and walking back out.
Sometimes it’s admitting you’re overwhelmed.
Sometimes it’s changing your mind.
Sometimes it’s starting over again.
Sometimes it’s saying, “I can’t carry all of this by myself anymore.”
And sometimes strength is simply making it through an ordinary Tuesday when your mind is carrying a hundred things nobody else can see.
I’m learning that I don’t have to earn rest by completely exhausting myself first.
I don’t have to pretend something doesn’t hurt just because I’ve survived worse.
And I definitely don’t have to have everything figured out to still be moving forward.
Maybe being strong isn’t about never falling apart.
Maybe it’s about giving yourself permission to be human when you do.
So if you’re the strong one too—the one everybody assumes will figure it out—I hope you remember this:
You’re allowed to be tired.
You’re allowed to need people.
You’re allowed to have days when you aren’t productive, positive, or holding everything together.
The world will keep turning.
And tomorrow, you can try again.
But today?
Maybe you just need to put some of it down.
